Adani Group to Start Its Work On the Dharavi Redevelopment Project from 18 March 2024

Almost a year and a half after the Adani Group bagged the INR 5,000 crore contract to redevelop Dharavi, the largest slum in Asia, the business group is all set to start to work on the Adani Dharavi project. The revamp operations are going to start on 18 March 2024. This is a big milestone achieved by the Adani Group towards bringing about extraordinary development in Maharashtra. It is also going to impact the lives of millions of people who have been residing under stressful conditions in the Dharavi slum area.

The Dharavi Redevelopment Project:

The Dharavi Redevelopment Project is a joint venture between the Adani Group and the Maharashtra state government. It is one of the biggest redevelopment projects to have been ever undertaken in India. The project involves offering flats to the residents of the Dharavi slum. These flats are going to have an area of 350 square feet. Each flat will come with an independent kitchen and toilet. This will bring about a significant improvement in the living conditions of the people of the Dharavi area. Their lives will also transform for the better.

However, before the flats are offered, a survey has to be undertaken to identify the eligible beneficiaries for free homes within the Dharavi redevelopment area. This step involves collecting data from the residents of Dharavi and performing an in-depth analysis of the data to shortlist the individuals who will be able to benefit from the development project.

The Need for The Survey:

As per the Dharavi Redevelopment Project, only those who have been residents of Dharavi before 2000 will be able to avail themselves of the free housing option. The last survey was conducted 15 years ago. It raised a lot of concerns about the relocation of 700,000 eligible inhabitants. The people were experiencing a fear of facing high rent payments and losing their source of income. So, in order to bring an end to all the controversies, the Adani Group has taken the responsibility of starting work on the survey on 18 March.

The Gautam Adani-led conglomerate will be gathering data from thousands of residents of Dharavi to understand their rehabilitation needs. The survey will start from the Kamla Raman Nagar area. It will involve assigning each home a number before performing a Lidar survey. A laser mapping of the corresponding lane will be done to ensure that none of the houses get missed out. This will once again ensure that the entire survey is conducted properly. The global business conglomerate also plans to use laser mapping to create the first digital map of the Adani Dharavi settlement.

The data obtained from the survey will be offered to the state government as well for detailed analysis. A specially developed app is going to be used to capture the data. Every informal settlement will also be offered a unique number. As per the redevelopment plan, each tenement holder will be offered a home, and the year of occupying a given space will determine the location where he will be rehabilitated. As a part of the Dharavi project, the Adani Group plans to collaborate with US design firm Sasaki, UK-based consultancy firm Buro Happold, and Indian architect Hafeez Contractor. This will ensure that the development activities are carried out in the best possible way.

How Will the Project Impact the Lives of the Dharavi Residents?

The Dharavi Redevelopment Project was created with the aim of making India’s financial capital slum-free. The project is also meant to bring about a massive transformation in the lives of millions of people who have been living in the Dharavi area. They will also be able to experience excellent prosperity in life. The Dharavi Redevelopment Project also aims to give the local businesses of the Dharavi area an excellent boost. The local businesses will be able to enjoy tax benefits on their SGST return. This will trigger economic growth and development in the area. It will also encourage more people to take up entrepreneurial ventures.

Conclusion:

The Adani Dharavi Project is indeed one of the most crucial projects taken up by the Adani Group in recent times. It will bring about massive changes in the economic condition of our entire country. The project will bring about an improvement in the lives of millions of people. It is also going to boost business for the Adani Group and allow the conglomerate to walk the path of prosperity.
