An interesting First Power Station Debut of DJI

In recent events, DJI just launched its first power stations featuring the new proprietary SDC which is also referred to as Smart DC. It is a port that can fast charge the batteries of the DJI drone and can also support lots of inputs and output accessories. The $699 Power 1000 and the smaller one $379 Power 500 both provide a bevy of AC and DC ports which are more available if people are willing to fully commit to the living SDC dongle life of DJI.

The power of 500 has one SDC lite port whereas the larger power 1000 consists of both regular SDC as well as SDC lite. Both the power stations are fitted with the batteries used by LFP chemistry which are safer and last longer around 80% capacity after 3000 cycles as compared to the traditional NMC.

Comparing both, they offer a 0.02-second cutover which makes them apt for use as UPS on unstable grids. They come without any application, though which is quite common and a beneficial way to remotely manage power stations.

1024Wh power 1000 is the flagship offering besides SDC and SDC lite ports, another remarkable feature of the same is the two USB C ports which support a maximum output of 140 W as long as you use the right cable to connect a PD 3.1 USB-C device for example a laptop.

The power station itself can be fully charged in only 70 minutes as its maximum input of around 1200W or it can also be dumbed down to 600W along with a switch on the front side which can decrease the noise of the fan to 23db. 23db is very quiet for a power station which makes it a good option. The weight of the same is around 13 kgs or if measured in pounds it goes up to 29 pounds.

SDC inputs and SDC outputs –

DJI says that there is no real difference between how bidirectional SDC and SDC lite ports function as of now.

SDC inputs:

  • SDC lite – DC 32-58.4 AV, mx 400 W, 8A
  • SDC – DC 32-58.4 AV, mx 400 W, 8A

SDC outputs:

  • SDC lite – 9-27v, max current 10 A, max 240 W
  • SDC – 9-27v, max current 10 A, max 240 W

SDC ports of DJI support the Power SDC super-fast charge function of the company that brings as much as 230W for the Matrice 30 series intelligent flight batteries.
